Work in Progress

Landscape/Terraspace WiP

This is something I’m working on at the moment. It’s a long way from done but I wanted to share with you to see what kind of thoughts you have about it so far. I haven’t decided if I’m going to keep it as just a landscape image or make it into a terraspace (landscape of another world) image. This is still a low quality image, not much detail to it yet but it gives you an idea of what it might look like when it’s done.  Let me know what you think so far and should it be a landscape or terraspace.

Here are some earlier versions as well.

Happy St. Patty’s Day (In the Mist)

I started working on this image recently and thought that because of the colors I’m working with it would be fun to show it to you today. What better day to see green right!

Well here is the picture, keep in mind this is still a work in progress. Let me know what you think so far.

UPDATE: This is no longer a work in progress. After getting several requests to not change it, I’ve decided to leave it as is. If you would like to purchase a print, please click here.

The Challenge

This past week, I sent an email to a well known space artist named Greg Martin. In this email I gave a suggestion for an idea I had that could be used for his “Experience the Planets” project. I also asked him for any tips he might have for me to grow as an artist. I wasn’t actually expecting a response, at least not for quite some time but I got one within an hour. He talked a little bit about my idea for his project and then he got into my paintings.

After taking a look at some of the paintings, it was clear to him that because I am new to this I took some shortcuts and used filters that are provided by Photoshop. He was correct, there were times that I did that. Greg told me something that I’ve now found to be true and that is this. There is nothing compared to the satisfaction you get from completing a work and making the stars shine and the planets glow using nothing more than a paintbrush and some color. He then issued me a challenge. That challenge was to create an image using nothing but a brush and some colors and to find a way to make the stars shine and the planets glow. Create something I could be proud of and know that I made it and not some computer program.

Well, I decided to take up his challenge! I’m still working on my first image. Needless to say, it takes far more time to create something this way than I thought but I’ve put the pen to the paper and here is what I have so far. Take a look, share some thoughts if you like and help me make this image the best it can be. Remember that this is still a work in progress.
